Daterra Portela do Vento is a biodynamic barrel-aged red wine made by Daterra Winegrowers in Ribeira Sacra (Galicia) with the Garnacha Tintorera and Mencía varieties .
Daterra Viticultores is the project created by Laura Lorenzo , a Galician winemaker known for producing different wines that are deeply rooted in the orography of the region. Val do Bibei (Ribeira Sacra). A work of maximum passion and minimum interventionism, characterized by the cultivation of native varieties, maceration with the skins and the use of clay amphorae.
Daterra Portela do Vento comes from old vineyards located in the Val do Bibei. The vines are planted on very steep slopes at an altitude of 400 metres and have granite soil. These are difficult-to-access vineyards where heroic viticulture is practised with biodynamic precepts and very low yields. The harvest is carried out manually in 15 kg boxes at the optimum moment of ripeness.
In the winery, 20% of the Daterra Portela do Vento grapes are destemmed. This is followed by a 10-day maceration on the skins and spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine ages for 11 months in 500-litre French and chestnut oak barrels. Once the wine is finished, it is bottled without stabilising, without clarifying, without filtering and with the addition of a minimum dose of sulphites.
Daterra Portela do Vento is a small production that is born from effort and love for a job well done. A red wine with an Atlantic profile and a lot of personal charm.
